COUNCIL REASSURES RESIDENTS OVER BRUNNER MOND PROPOSALS
Residents are being reassured that Cheshire West and Chester Council’s views on proposals by Brunner Mond for a sustainable energy plant will be considered in full by the Government.
The application is to be determined by the The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the authority is being consulted for its viewpoint.
The DECC has confirmed it is extending the timescale to enable comments to be submitted after the Strategic Planning Committee meeting on February 10, rather than the original date of January 20.
Councillor Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Community and Environment, said: “The Council is committed to providing its fullest response on this application in order to ensure all factors are taken into consideration, including the views of local residents.
“In order to do this, it has been necessary to extend the timescale. This has been fully agreed with the DECC and Brunner Mond is aware.”
Councillor Mark Stocks, Chairman of the Northwich East and Shakerley and Marbury Community Forum, said: “There has been a huge amount of interest in this application, with several thousand residents responding to the consultation.
“I hope local people will see this timescale extension as clear evidence of our commitment to ensuring that the Council’s response to these proposals is as accurate and detailed as possible.”
The company is hoping to build the plant at its Northwich East site in Griffiths Road, Lostock.

Papers from Covanta Inquiry, Middlewich
Covanta evidently propose to supply heat and power to other customers on the Midpoint 18 Business Park besides British Salt and the grid connection. This would impinge on the surrounding landscape and great crested newt habitat. See Ruling.
